The habit of smiling increases our energy level, inspires others, connects, reduces stress, influences and invites others to connect with us.
Just like the Rebs who put aside all the chatter and the personality issues to focus on playing great baseball together, we control our attention and what we allow to distract us. Focus separates mediocrity from excellence.
What is the most valuable thing we can give another person? Time. And when we receive a handwritten note, we know someone has invested some time in us and our relationship.
We will have bad days, days where we don’t perform to our potential. But, like Southern Miss, we can look to the future, be positive and celebrate our progress and accomplishments. Sportsmanship, mutual respect, makes us better and creates a sense of belonging that is craved by so many today.
Being a skeptic is a strength. We need skeptics on every team. But denial holds everyone back, especially ourselves.
When we can laugh at ourselves, it makes us real and keeps us grounded and humble — as leaders and team members.
