CeCe is recovering from foot surgery. Six weeks of no weight bearing, a scooter for four weeks, and now a big boot. Yes, it has been rough on me. Ha!
This morning, I noticed CeCe was up earlier than normal, showered and dressed in her stylish big boot in the kitchen.
The Conversation
Me: Where are you going?
CeCe: I want to take Aunt Kate to have her hair and nails done.
CeCe is Aunt Kate’s primary caregiver. You may have read about Aunt Kate’s adventures in this blog before.
Me: Do you feel well enough to do that? How are you going to load her walker?
CeCe: I’ll get the assisted living staff to help, and then I’ll get help at the salon.
Me: Can’t this wait? Do you really need to be doing this with your foot right now?
CeCe: I feel like I need to do it, I have been unable to take her anywhere for five weeks and she loves to have her hair and nails done.
Our Insight
Returning to my comfortable office, I made a few notes for today’s blog. CeCe is demonstrating persistence in doing good, even when she faces her own health issues. She is not doing it for validation or recognition. CeCe truly cares about Aunt Kate and is grateful for all Aunt Kate did for her when she was young. You can’t overstate the lasting joy you experience when you give of yourself. From service to appreciation, to gratitude, and certainly generosity, we can find absolute joy in today’s world of “status.”
Which brings me to our question — what motivates us? It’s certainly something to reflect on as I did today while CeCe was caring for Aunt Kate.
Who can we reach out to in a caring way today?
