Counting My Blessings: A Path to Contentment

We live in a world always on the go, insisting we must chase the next shiny object to feel satisfied and happy. Funny thing is, chasing success often leads to stress and feeling like you’ve just run a marathon without a medal. But, if we aim for significance, we can snag both joy and success at the same time. Significance is about focusing less on ourselves and more on lifting up those around us. It’s like shifting from a me-centered world to a we-centered party — more friends and fun!

Here’s where slowing down comes into play — a feat as hard as trying to stop a speeding rollercoaster once it’s started its loop-de-loop. How do I do it? By regularly taking a moment to reflect and jotting down my blessings. I find I’m wealthier in more ways than any bank account could ever reflect. This practice keeps me grounded and opens my heart wide to gratitude, reminding me that there are people who dream of having a sliver of what I often take for granted.

To help you think more about the power of contentment (that’s right, power-up, people!), let me share my blessing list this week. Contentment doesn’t mean you stop striving for greatness, it empowers you to make decisions that rocket you toward your full potential with impact and a life full of significance.  It’s also the best way to keep your sanity and health.

Contentment also gives you the magic power to say “no” to things that clash with your values. Case in point: missing another soccer game because a client has a surprise “emergency” or an opportunity knocks that’s oh-so-conveniently a “game changer.” I swear, those moments always pop up when I plan quality time with the family or when I’m ready to lend a helping hand.

Full disclosure, it’s always a battle for me.  I recently missed Grandparents Day because I let a new client reschedule our session to a time that made attending the event impossible. But with my blessing list, I’m hoping to make better choices going forward.

Here’s what makes me rich:

  1. Health: We tend to overlook this gem until we’re sick or dreaming of perfect health.
  2. Grandkids: Eight unique and eternally energetic souls.
  3. CeCe and her adventures: Never a dull moment.
  4. Christian Parents (Pop Joe and Mom): Foundation of love.
  5. Family: The glue of support, love, and fun.
  6. Friends: Providers of laughter, sharing, football thrills, and good eats.
  7. Coffee with slow mornings: A simple luxury.
  8. Oliver: My six-pound Yorkie sidekick and confidant.
  9. Ole Miss Football Winning: Cheers to that!
  10. Crappie Fishing Abundance: A tribute to nature’s bounty.
  11. Inner Peace and Low Stress: Priceless peace of mind.
  12. High-Trust Relationships: Where honesty flourishes.
  13. Daily Workouts: Keeping the energy buzzing.
  14. Flexible Schedule: The freedom to flow.
  15. Traveling with CeCe: Adventures across the globe.
  16. Contentment and Gratitude: A package deal.
  17. Opportunities to Share and Support: Significance in motion.
  18. Freedoms to Choose How I Live: Yes, please.
  19. You and Your Support: A two-way street.
  20. My Savior Jesus Christ: The cornerstone of my life.

I am far richer than any treasure chest ever imagined. Now, I’m curious – what are five of your blessings? Let’s share the wealth!
